Build it and they will come – the number of people basing their entire business plan and mindset on a phrase from a Kevin Costner movie, Field of Dreams, is substantially bigger than anyone would like to think.

Yet despite the number of times this Field of Dreams strategy has backfired – because it is as secure as relying on the lottery for your retirement – it is an ideology that continues to gain support.

In terms of measurable digital marketing success to happen, you need two ingredients:

A website isn’t self-driving, you have to put in as much work to the online arm of your business as you would to any brick and mortar business presence.

People are Looking for You

There are people out there searching for you and are ready to pay for your goods and services. You just have to help them find you. Just having a website isn’t enough – it won’t do everything on its own.

It doesn’t matter whether you paid $500 or $5000 for your website, if you don’t drive it will still be just like your new car sitting in the garage – not going anywhere.

So, what is your plan?

In fact, you need one before you build your website. You need to know how much time and money you have to allocate to marketing your website because you are going to need a fair amount of both.
